Default Car buying help?

Hello, brand new to the forum, and as of yet I'm not sure if I will ever be an official member. April 10th I got in a wreck, my 2003 Monte Carlo SS was totaled, I came out of the wreck with no injuries, and so did the other driver. It was his fault, he blew a red light in the intersection as I was turning left.

I have long been a member of the Monte Carlo forum, learning all there is about the 3.8 engine, the famed Monte Carlo name, all its lore, and an even longer supporter of GM, especially Chevrolet. But now I'm in the market for a new vehicle, and I vow I will get a domestic vehicle, GM or Ford, but preferably a GM, and most preferably a Chevrolet. In Fort Waldon Beach Florida there is a 2002 Camaro Z28 for sale, it's from a private seller for $12,000. The mileage is 16,929.

It's an automatic, which is fine since I've never learned how to drive stick, (my Monte was a 4 speed auto, so I'm used to it), not the prettiest color, that greyish beige is tolerable, has T-tops, looks to be in excellent condition. The KelleyBlueBookValue is for $11,000 from a private seller, maybe I could talk him down to that.

Anyways, here's the link. Go ahead and tell me what you think, should I go with it? Anything I should know before making the final purchase?

That all depends on you, your likes of the car and the $$$. What I would recommend is that if you don't think it is the car you are looking for, walk away from it. You will never be satisfied with it no matter how good it looks or how well it runs. How long has it been for sale? Is the price right for your area compared to ads of similar cars? If the person has had it for sale for a while, he might come down. If he just advertised it, he is going to hold out on the price.

yea for that price you can find a fully loaded ss with some bolt ons with around 60k miles in my area. the car seems pretty plain and the color is uggg no offence but it just doesnt look sporty. on the tranny issue this is the perfect chance to learn how to drive stick, ive stuck some craigslist ads of cars for alot less

The thing that intrigued me most about the car is the mileage, 8 years old and not even 17,000 miles. I love Camaros, so I have near no doubt that I will love the car. The price should be in my range, I just have to talk with the bank and make sure I can get approved for a loan.

The color, yeah it's blah, but I always considered liking the color of a car more of a girl's trait. Most girls love cars based on how pretty it looks, color being the defining trait. I want to love this car, don't care what girls think, and the color isn't that important to me.

I'm sure I could get a fully loaded SS for the same price and a lot more miles, but the differences between the SS and Z28 are fairly minimal, if I understand them right. The SS will come with 330HP instead of 315, the SS usually comes with an SS ram-air hood, a tighter suspension system, and all the necessary SS badges, but that's it.

I thank you for your replies, I will more than likely be going down to Fort Waldon Beach this weekend and test driving it, and if I like it I'll buy it. Is there anything I should look for when test driving it? Anything that commonly goes wrong with this car that I should be on the lookout for? It's a digital odometer, but a friend of mine told me that it's possible they may have rolled the miles back just to get a higher price out of it. Any ideas?

Make sure you push EVERY button so that you know everything works. Windows for sure. If indeed it only has 16k miles on it, it should be fine but you never know. Good luck and hope you enjoy it.

If you can get your hands on an analyzer or take it somewhere that will check it to see if any codes are showing, might be a good idea.

Check for leaks after driving it, and make sure to check the trans fluid. I made the mistake of rushing into buying my first 95 Z and I had to have the tranny rebuilt not too long ago..
