Default Can I use this rear end on CL?

I found a rear end on CL last night from an '02 Camaro SS complete minus brakes. $80

He bought it for a '96 he had but it was wrecked before he was able to put it in the car. He said it's posi, isn't sure about the ratio, and doesn't think it has T/C but not sure. The fluid was drained before he got it to make it lighter to transport so I can easily take the cover off to check the gears and ratio.

I can look at it as much as I want beforehand before deciding to buy it unless somebody beats me to it. Should I go for this and would there be any problems to put it in my car? I know the brakes are different 99-02 but since it has no brakes will mine go on no problem?

There should be a plug on the drivers side near the hub for traction control, if it has it. Do you know if it was out of a M6 or A4 car? If it was out of a M6 the ratio will be 3.42. A4 cars came with 2.73 but 3.23 was optional. 2.73 is what your current v6 has if you are a A4. I believe you should be fine with it and it will be a worthy upgrade, especially if it has the 3.23 gearing or 3.42.

That's what I was thinking. Mine is GU4, so 3.08. The ratio should be stamped on the gear, right?

traction control or not is the main issue with the different 4th gen rear ends. if you have it you will need one with it and not if not. tc has a sensor on each wheel and non tc has one sensor at the center section. the dimentions are different between the two as well.

Well I looked at it today, turned the hub and the other went the opposite way. So no posi. Checked the gear, had 41.15 stamped on it, so I assume you divide that because I did and came up with 2.73. Crap. Also, there were two wires going to each wheel and nothing in the center so I'm guessing T/C as well based on what you said craby.

If you do find one try to find one with the brakes. Theres alot more to the braking system then there is to the 93-97 camaros. I found that out the hard way.

^ I'll keep that in mind.

I'll have to give him a call to give him the details on it. He didn't really have any idea what it had.

So what is the main issue with T/C or no T/C? Is it basically you won't have a speedometer unless you convert everything else?

traction control has a sensor on each wheel. look behide the rear wheels is there wires going to each side sorta at the brakes. sensors are for the traction control and abs so you would have abs and tc lights at the dash also neither would work. speed senso for speedo is in the trans
