Default Can the Cigarette Lighter only be "hot" when the car is on?

The CD player in my car went out so I started using my ipod via a FM transmitter. When I shut off the car, I also have to unplug the ipod and transmitter. Is there anyway I can change the Cig plug/Accessory plug to only be hot when the engine is on?

A Mercedes I had let you switch a fuse from spot one to spot two to accomplish this.

Anyone know if the Camaro has something similar?

You can probably tap into the remote wire going to the radio.

Lighters can pull a lot of amp so be carful where you pull from. There is no simple way switch which side of the fusebox power is pulled form.

Excellent. So I could go to an auto parts store and buy an aux power outlet; then wire it to a switched power supply, therefore keeping my wiring harness in tact.

make sure to put a fuse in the line as close to the hot side as you can
