Default Cams/ gearing for LS1?

I'm looking to upgrade my stock LS1 with some headers, cams and lower gearing.

I already have cat back exhaust, ram air, y pipe, other exhaust mods, etc.

For the headers, JBA shorty headers, or long tubes?

What kind of cams work best for stock ls1? I was looking at SLP g5x4.

Is 3.7 gearing or lower like 2.7 better?

What do you guys recommend to get the most power out of the ls1 before adding a turbo?

Shorty headers? Don't bother.

Low gears won't help with anything.

Shorty could get a good 10 hp, but I guess long tubes could get like 20.
Lower gearing is essential when you have a turbo.
Stock gearing is way to high..

Even still, you're not adding a turbo at this moment so those lower gears are going to hurt you. Why not go with LTs? Unless you're in CA or some other nanny state.

Can't find any for LS1's just slp headers but I don't want SLP headers, lol.
JBA only makes shorties for our cars...

Do you know of any good LTs for the ls1?

shorties will get you nothing.

BBK, Pacesetter, TSP, Kooks, ARH, Edelbrock, SLP all make longtube headers; and thats just to name a few.

Are you an A4 or M6? If you are an A4, get yourself a stall and some gears before doing a h/c/i buildup. If M6 you already have 3.42's and I really wouldnt go any shorter with the stock 10 bolt.

What year is your car? I recommend the TR224r and TR228 cams. If you are 2001-2002 you already have a LS6 intake, so pick up some 243 heads and new springs and call it good.

I have a 2001 SS with the hurst 6 speed short throw shifter. My first gear only goes to like 50 mph :/
by the time I'm around 130 I make the shift to 6th
Is this the ls6 intake?

visually there isn't much of a difference between an ls1 and ls6 intake, we'd need to see the actual mfg #'s

Why do you want to go faster in first gear? With a 6 speed car, you'll be crossing the traps on a 1/4 mile IN 4th gear, thats inevitable, whether you have stock power or 500whp.

I STILL have a set of pacesetter LTs on my car, 1 3/4 inch. I'd look for either a 1 3/4 or the more preferred 1 7/8ths size. That gives you room to grow.

As for the cam (you only have one), it might be better to tell us what your goal with the car is? Is it all out drag? Something fun to DD? There are cam only cars running 9s in the 1/4 mile, a cam I'd recommend for that wouldn't be the same as one I'd recommend for an autox/rr car.
