Default Cams

Okay a little off topic but I got new window motors woot! My dad is bringing them up tomorrow morning and we're installing them. Okay now onto the point of this thread. I'm wanting to do a cam upgrade in the very near future. How hard is this to do, and do I have to pull the motor out of the car to swap it out? Also any recommendations on the brand I should get? Thanks guys.

Check summit racing. That's where my friend got his cam.

Is there anything else I need to replace or upgrade at the same time?

I recommend the GT1 cam from comp cams. That's what I put in my car. It's a mild cam. Anything bigger and you're going to have to start upgrading internal parts and it will throw a SES code when idling. With upgrading cams though, you will more than likely need a tune to adjust timing and all. Since adding mine, I get a slight hesitation when accelerating when cold. Also my IAC acts up. It all needs tuned out.

Awesome, thanks reject. Will upgrading cams show me any performance gains, or deeper exhaust?

You should replace your stock exhaust before you do a cam swap. New headers at least, but headers+cats+catback should be done.

I noticed a big difference in exhaust tone. It's much louder, especially inside. It's gotten to the point where I don't listen to cds anymore, I listen to my car while driving around, and I LOVE my system. Haha. Performance gains, you should, but it depends on what you've done to the car. I think Comp cams rated the GT1 as something like 15-20 hp gain (don't quote me) BUT it depends on your setup. That's just what's possible from that cam. The GT1 allows you to run a 'stock' setup and not have an issues with the SES light going off. If you started looking around at cams online, a lot will mention the SES light, whether they will set them off or not. But I found the GT1 does NOT set off the light and you don't have to upgrade parts for it and it was relatively affordable.

Reject would you happen to have a link to where I could buy the GT1?

I'm sorry I know it probably doesn't bother you, but it sounds weird when someone refers to someone who is helping them as "Reject" lol. "Darling" sounds a lot friendlier don't you think? :P
