RE: is a camaro suitable for a school car?
lol.. i live in basically the "beverly hills" of NY, we have sooo many nice cars in our parking lot, couple range rovers, alot of new eclipses, one WRX(not STI) alot of older eclipses, alot of Jeeps that are prolly worth 10-15k, etc etc, but really no sports cars (excluding eclipse) besides one foxbody, and it's a POS.. another reason i miss my camaro, was like best car in parking lot.

They get (relatively) good gas mileage as long as you don't thrash it around. I recently have been getting about 25 MPG (I used to run the RPM up pretty high when I accelerated but I stopped doing that a while ago because tires are expensive).

Drumr do you mean you stopped because gas is so expensive? And soupah what made you get rid of the supra? If you get the camaro parts should be cheaper and more easily accesible than they were for the supra so that's a selling point for your dad. As far as getting better gas mileage I really don't know that it is something that will help you all that much but if you are trying to use that as a reason to work on your car then yes, it helps your mileage.

I got my car in July before I started my junior year in high school. I use at as a daily driver, and its a fun car to drive. People become envious, and you get known as the "the kid with the nice car" or "the kid that has a Camaro." You shouldn't experience any problems if you get a good one and maintain it. I've got ~43,000 miles on mine, and since my type of driving is considered "city" I get between 19-22 MPG. I still park farther away from everyone else, and only park near/next to people that I know pretty well.

I said I stopped doing that because tires are expensive (120 per to get new ones of what I have on right now). But, yes, gas is expensive too (but I'm not as concerned about that as I am tires).
Headers/freer flowing exhaust and a CAI will give you better gas mileage but it probably won't be a huge difference (not sure about spark plugs though).

umm i have a 1995 camaro 3.4l automatic i got for my first car in 2006right before my senior year in high schooland the only reason a v6 is my parents bought it for me. I have had no problems and i burn my tires off the car all the time before someguy ran into me. Mympg is about 22 in the city but thats being heavy on the throttle. My insurance is like 1800 a year for basic insurance noextras. I priced insurancefor my self 18 years old in NYfor a z28 and it was like 3800-4000 a year. they are very nice cars and i love picking up chicks on friday nights in the summer with the t-tops off and all shinned up
