A/C Compressor Clutch ?
I'm having a problem with my a/c compressor clutch engaging. (LT1) With the car running, sometimes when you move the selector to a/c, the engine speed picks up a little and the cooling fan comes on, but the compressor clutch doesn't engage. If you lightly touch it (I use a cleaning brush handle), it engages. Sometimes it will cycle and it won't re-engage. I'm thinking the gap has grown and the magnet won't pull it far enough. Are these clutches like the ones GM always used, where you put your feeler gauge in the gap and with the tool on the male stud you push the clutch in a little? Has anyone ever adjusted the clutch with the compressor still in the car?
Put it up on the lift tonight. Gap at the clutch was 0.030". Snugged it up closer to 0.020". It has been working consistently so far.... I did discover that there is no nut on the stud in the middle. I will call the dealer tomorrow and see if there is supposed to be one and if they have one in stock.
