Brake squeal that will not go away
#11
It definately does have some side to side wobble to it. What could cause this wobble, bad shimming of the axle? I'm also wondering if this is the cause of the squeal too, because then why would putting lubricant on the brake pads make the noise go away?

The axle shaft is designed to have some in & out movement to allow removal and intallation of the C clips that keep the axle from pulling out. Up and down or front to back movement of the axle shaft is not allowed. Shims used in setting up differential gears do not affect axle movement.

I'm going to have to take it apart again next weekend and see what its doing, am also going to call up the guy that did my rearend and ask him if he has any ideas. In the mean time I'm going to pick up one of those antisqueal sprays you recommended Pete, and see how it works out.

The axle is actually brand new and was installed when we had the new differential bearings put in. I've been looking online for ways to check on the wheel bearing, most say to just try rocking the wheel towards the center of the car and back and if there is more than 1/2 inch of play, the bearing is bad. Any truth to that? Thanks again Pete, you've been a big help.
