200 ish hp from what ive seen.
maybe a 14-15 second car? pretty quick for the 80s, but an ls1 944 would be a bullet.
how does the ls1 affect its handling?

In most States they have to attemped to contact the last known owner. They will not tell you who that is. They have to give the owner 6 months to reply before a new title can be issued. That assumes the car was titled in your State. Imagine what a nightmare it would be if you could just get a title for any car that was not reported stolen. You would have people watching Obituaries and ICU units then searching out those peoples cars and they could say "I bought and he never gave me the title" and apply for titles. Most likely a Bank still has the title.

Hopfully somewhere close by there is a guy who wants a Camaro and is looking at a smashed rear that needs cut off. If not its $75 worth of metal that will need cut up before it can be junked.

jee sorry man..

Why start a project like this? I am retired and race a 944 NA with NASA and PCA. I also own a lot of 944 Turbos and other 944s (See the picture above, those are all my cars). My first Chevy powered 944 was fun, but really not a very good conversion. I decided to do an LS1 into a 944 Turbo to do it right. The biggest issue withe the 944 Turbo is not Power. I have two that make about 375 WHP. This issues are low end torque and reliability. I have owned several V8 Chevys in the past and currently own a 94 Corvette ZR1. I love the grunt of the V8 and the fact that you can flog them without blowing headgaskets or breaking timing belts (a definite plus). The LS1 weighs about the same as the turbo engine and doesn't affect the handling of the 944, which is excellent to begin with.

I'm building two cars. Once I sort out the LT1 944, I'll transfer the drivetrain to an Automatic Porsche 968 Cabriolet for a weekend cruiser. The LS1 will go into the Green 944 Turbo for a fast road and occasional track car.

I found a Porche in the wrecking yard once that had an Olds 455 stuffed in it. They used one out of a Toranado so the transmission would work with the rear wheels, not the front. They butchered the firewall and the job was a real hackup but it was kinda cool seeing that big engine in that little car. Oh and a tree ended the life of the car and maybe the occupants too. it was pretty messed up.

$1200 and I'll throw in the rest of the car minus engine. Really can't sell the wheels alone I need them to move the car around.
