Borla
Got a line on a Borla catback system. The guy wants $250, it is only a year old. Thing is, I don't understand the way this systemn works. Looks like one side is straight through with some different plates to put in it and the other side goes through the muffler....would'nt that make it sound different from each side if only one goes through the muffler? Anyone running one that can provide some insight and do you think it is a good deal? I seee these are close to $1000 new, so the price seems good. Thanks.
The different plates feature different sized openings you can use to adjust the flow of exhaust to affect the volume. The most open plate will essentially bypass the muffler, while the closed plate will route the gas through the muffler. The sound doesnt change from one side of the car to the other.... its all mashed together with the million other sounds a car makes.
If the system is solid then $250 is a good price for it being only 1 year old.

Exhaust flow will take the path of least resistance. What's interesting to me, is someone might buy a new Borla system and end up running it wide open, essentially having themselves an $850 straight pipe.
Exactly, and thats what most people end up doing lol.
I have a flowcrapper on it now and I hate it. Last thing I want is rasp. I've got a magnaflow on my truck and I love it.
Go for it, good deal. With even the smallest hole plate the system is loud and will attract piggy attention, etc. but sounds good and the sound is NOT what I would describe as raspy (assuming OEM cat as I have on a 3.8L)! The system still sounds great full-closed, and the ideal is install an electric cutout as well - instant volume control. DMH cutouts are good.
I have this system on my RS -- love it.
