^^oh I did not know that. I'm in NY and even if that were true it wouldn't stop me, it's the no money thing that's crushing my dreams of owning a SS vert

00' and up trucks had the 4.8s and 5.3s in them. Some of the tahoes had them as well.

its a direct drop in, all the accessories will work, car intake will work, tranny will bolt up, all the same sensors and plugs for the harness, you're essentially swapping the motor out.

Do you know of any build threads? PM me if they are on another forum. I am seeing a lot of these LS1 with engine damage and it would be nice to know some details on a direct swap like this.

there is honestly not much to it. As long as its a genIII motor, its a direct replacement as if you were putting any other LSx based motor in.

I see a lot on this forum, that people over complicate these swaps and there really is no need for it. The shop that I work WITH (not for) has done swaps in just about any rwd platform that is worth it. Multiple BMWs, Lexus SC300s, 240sx, el caminos, LT1 camaros, among building monster turbo and nitrous cars and I help out when I can.

I see these swaps that people on here say "can't" be done or "it will never work" fire up and run all the time. Trust me when I tell you, swapping a 5.3 (as long as its a genIII) is the same as swapping an engine in anything else

99 and up actually. Pretty sure Tahoes and Suburbans both had them.

I said some states. Cal is one of them and most others are. Also when swapping the 5.3 replace the cam from the ls1 into it to pic up some last hp.
