Default Black 94

Hey I'm new to these forums and I love this car. I've been reading as much as I can on it and I hope to post more pics of some real modifications when I have the cash for it. This is just to complete the black look on the exterior, sanded black rims and orange calipers. Hope you like it. Only the front 2 are done, getting to the rear tonight.

What kind of paint you spray those rims with? What grit did you sand with? I was wanting to try and paint a set of those wheels but I wanted a brighter silver with the inset being the color of the car.

It's called sand-able primer, I cleaned them real well and removed all the dirt and specs and pained 5-7 thin coats on each wheel and I didn't have to sand anything.

if u didnt prepare the surface the paint will peel in the future. are u going to hit it with some gloss or are u looking for the flat color. dont look bad. i do like the bling a little more but this is for u and your tastes.

I agree with Crabby. The longevity of the Finish depends on the Prep work.

Yeah I think it would definately look better with gloss black as opposed to flat, to match the car. Flat black looks kinda like black primer to me. And why not red calipers instead of orange, Halloween theme? But I know we all have our own tastes. The work itself looks good.

I cleaned it well enough, I've done this 3 times before, it's kind of an automotive tradition for me, I've noticed that most things won't harm a flat black finish on rims, minus the curb. The paints I use don't seem to ever peel, it might be the 5-7 thin coats or just cleaning it with a wet rag or some mineral spirits before painting.

Edit: Added pics of the rear.

I painted my wheels black using Duplicolor HP wheel coating, satin black with clear over. Degreased and sanded using 400grit. Took all day to do all 4 with 2 coats primer, 4 coats color and 4 coats clear. I left the center cap silver and put them back on (I think it looks best with the cover on) but the pic is without the covers.
