is it doing it if you just turn the key on? need to make sure your not pumping gas out so turn the key on and let it prime if it will and then right away go back and see if its leaking or pump fuel out. a pump going out or starving for fuel (like if the sock on the pump is plugged) can make a lot of noise. a pump with a open line will make a different noise that just a little louder than a good pump running normal unless its pumping fuel against something. the evap release valve may make a noise i dont know.

cool fuel would keep the pump cooler if its overheating. or putting fuel in could have sturred things up enough to clear the sock. the pump in my truck would make some nasty noises. i just changed it, nice and quite again. the sock was plugged in it pretty good, im sure it had something to do with the pump goin.

check your evap tank and see if its full or has any fuel in it. if not i would look to the fuel pump. oh and if you havent check your fuel filter to make sure its not plugged.

Man, I hope he doesn't have Gorn in his tank. That's gotta be worse than someone putting sugar in it! lol
By the way, a good way to kill your evap canister is to overfill your gas tank at the station. You know...going click, click with the pump until the tank just can't take any more. The gas can run down the vent tube in the fill neck and ruin the canister.
