Default Baaaaaad news!

Well, my head gaskets blew.. So, they pulled the engine after they fixed them, because they were leaking. Soo, my block is severely warped and cracked. They said the guy we bought it from drove it hot for days. So I need a lt1 block. I was wondering how much it would cost for my mechanic to put in a ls1? Or would it be better to find an lt1? But. I need your help, I can't find any wrecked camaros/firebirds in Houston. If anybody knows/has one please tell me asap! Also, how much would an lt1 block cost?

Thanks!!!

MaVeN!

Seem to be a a lot LT1s in the Houston area.

LS1 convertion would be a ton more work. You would need a complete donor car. YOu would need to swap out the frame the tranny and the the computer system, gages and a bunch of other stuff.

Go with a lt1 block. The block itself should be pretty cheap. I would get a longblock if the car overheated for that long.

Yea, I assumed we were talking a used motor. Picking up a used block and doing a complete rebuild is cool but putting used parts in a used block is not a good idea unless there is a very good engine builder involved and most of the time the cost of verifying the parts are ok is more then half the cost of a rebuild.

My mechanic is awesome and is not going to charge for install. Because we paid them 2k on a warped block they didn't see. So they are going to get me a brand new engine for 1k.

A brand new LT1? Does GM still offer a new LT1? I was looking for it but I have not seen one.

There's a company that sells new lt1 blocks, but a shortblock is $2,300 and a longblock is $4,000. http://www.golenengineservice.com/html/lt1_lt4.html
