45$ shipping and i have lumber and fasteners... i never checked ebay i did look online and everywhere i saw the they were ~80$ per 2

 

ok call me crazy but is anyone but no matter how you add it up. it all comes down to will the 2x4 hold all that weight.

A 2x4 will definitely hold that much weight when made for the size of the tires. Plus, the casters will be placed under the 4 corners, so the longest piece of 2x4 is probably only about 14-16" or so (probably smaller).

Back to the OP, have you checked around for any industrial supply recyclers around you? I have a scrap yard near where I work, and that guy has everything and it is all pretty cheap. I was in there a few months back, and he had all steel casters for only a couple bucks each. I would bet that those would support at least 500lb each.

Worth a shot, or you can go HF and find a coupon for free shipping.

 

sorry iphone will the 2x4 be able to hold up. there built into triangles with the tire resting in the middle of them thats a lot of force pushing outward on them. your gonna need some heavy duty brackets to hold them from splitting apart. i would think it might be safer to build them from steel square tubing and weld it. that would make it 1000% stronger.

 

im not worried about the 2x4 my house is built out of them lol and ya theyre 15x16 and im going to screw them together then carriage bolts will hold the wheels on which will also go through both 2x4s in each corner... as for the scrap yard/industrial recycling im going to look into that thanx gramps

 

the wood isn't the issue. get yourself a half sheet of 3/4 plywood, 7/8 is better

qty 8 2x4x8

qty 4 1x3 strapping

3 inch wood screws (galvanized)

casters

make the dollies 18 inches by 18 inches. cut the 1/2 sheet plywood into qty 4 18x18 pieces

cut qty 4 18 inch 2x4 and qty 4 15 inch 2x4 for each dolly (2x4's are really 1 1/2 by 3 1/2)

plate the 2x4's together (2 18's together and 2 15's together making 2 of each per dolly)

using a 1 inch wood bore, bore through 1 inch of the top of the 18 inch 2x4's

then drill straight down the rest of the way with a drill bit matching the size of the carriage bolt to be used for the caster. fit a washer and nut down through the bored section and tightern. Do this 4 times per dolly

screw the plywood on top of the plated 2x4's

use the strapping on the outer edges of the plywood to serve a s little chalk to stop wheels from easily slipping


the 3/4 plywood (or 7/8) will only have a span of 12 inches and won't even sweat the weight of the vehicle
