Default alternator

Hey all just wondering if anyone can tell me what the stock alternator is in a 1995 z28 it has a/c if that matters is it a cs144 or cs130? are the cs144's the 140 amps? looking for an aftermarket alt if anyone has an opinion feel free to express it. maybe want to get a pretty one since almost the entire thing is visible. Thanks. ps either way I do need a new one.

CS-130 is for the 3.4L-L32 engine. There are at least two versions of the CS-144 for the 5.7L-LT1 engine: 10480131 (124 amps) and 10480111 (140 amps). I believe the 140 amp one is the replacement for the 124 amps alternator. The number after the "CS" indicates the diameter of the stator in mm.

hey thanks guys, yeah ive been looking at the tuff stuff 200 amp from summit p/n 8173NEP. Is that going to be a simple bolt in and plug in job or am I overlooking some important detail? Otherwise may go with the rock auto ac delco not a bad price.

Be careful going 43% bigger than what the factory provided (140 to 200 Amp) as the wiring may not be able to handle the extra amps. The wiring protected by fuses will survive, but fusible links and some cables may not, and go up in smoke.

I was thinking that could be a problem. What would I all have to change and what gauge wiring would I have to use? or would I just be blowing fuses all over anyway? I will take your word for it if you think I just shouldnt do it at all. The work and wiring i can do just dont know what. The other alternator i want (the tuff stuff 140 amp 8173NAP) I cant find anywhere. summit doesnt actually have any. They even ended their ebay auction for them.

140 amp is not going to hurt your wiring. I'm using a 200 amp an wiring is fine. i added a extra ground wire to alternator for piece of mind and that was it.
