Default Alright gents... time for the old flip flop again

Well as you all know ive gotten fed up with my V7 Camaroand i was trying to sell it for a 5.0L Sn95 mustang.... WELL my dad knows how much i love my car and he did some looking around and found that on average just a bare block for my car isnt that expensive reallyand he has decided that for my graduation present he will give me 600 bucks to spend how i like (but he suggested buying a block and building it as i had planned)... SOOO time for the flip flop... again... (how predictable right? me.. flip flopping about my car) so... what do you think, buy a new block and build it with performance parts (i dont want a 383, i just want a 350 with more efficient, more powerful internals) OR should i drop the 600 and whatever else i get for graduation (some times having divorced parents kicks ***) on a mechanic who can fix my misfire and my lifter slap? I personally am leaning towards buying a bare block and building that because i graduate june 12th or something and my birthday is on august 16th (which means i can either get more money or parts possibly). Now being this my only car i was thinking... as i mentioned in the OT my bro is back from Iraq and he didnt feel like having his infiniti shipped up from Texas so he bought a early 90s drop top 325I BMW that is an utter POS.. BUT hes leaving again soon and had planned on just GIVING it to my older sister whos car took a crap on her. Long story short if i can score the Bummer off him then id have a car to drive while i work on the camaro (im guessing it wouldnt take more than most of my summer and the bmw would leave me with a form of transporation and the thing is good on gas..) so what say you? pay a mechanic to fix it, or begin building a block?

Build the 350. You wont be nearly as happy in a mustang as you would be in a correctly running camaro.

if you are dead set on junking ur lt1 then go for it. buy into all the loops set forth before you.... personally, id open up that motor, fix the parts that are bad... and start driving again [&:]

v7? typo or do u need a new piston

well IMO i would build ur lt1, b/c mustangs suck, dont u remember having one, my v6 kept up with their earlier gt's...and people look down on lt1s ever since god created the ls1 so why dont u build an lt1 and surprise everyone and whoop some ls blocks ***

If I were you I would look around for a stock, low mile short block out of another Camaro or T/A. Then I would have a machine shop hone it and install new rings. Have your old heads fresheened up and put a new cam, lifters etc in. It would mean having your car down for a week or so and it it means doing the engine swap yourself, but that's the best way to learn. $600 is not going to buy you much and the block itself is probably fine. BTW are you sure it is lifter slap and not piston slap? I have never heard of lifter slap and the way lifter moves in its bore it can't really "slap".

idk thats what the mechanic at the shop called it w/e it is its annoying... As for the V7 remark i have a misfire. I did a crank test on my car and used an oscilliscope (sp?) to check my relative compression ratio and they were all straight execpt for two, one was low and the other was high but idk which it is. I am personally leaning towards just buying a block and piecing together a killer 350. I will buy whatever 600 will get me (starting with a block). I can clean it and built it myself since ive already put together a sbc350 (even thoughit wasnt an LT1 im sure their not too different block wise) Im sure installing the engine with the help of some friends wouldnt be too hard but i can always just save up money for that later. I dont want to mess with the current engine because i still need the car and it still runs fine (besides the problems its still pretwty strong) but since id like to mod it sometime id like a low mileage block and new performance internals.

wow.... my post didnt make alot of sense [&:] rough night....

id use that cash and try to fix the motor however you can. finding a cheap shortblock wouldnt be a bad route. but like jd said 600 bucks really isnt much.

Yea that's kinda what I am suggesting. Yo could get somthing like that and put in new rings and bearings and be good to go. Or you could buy it, and throw in a cam and other stuff. The big question Spartan is how much power do you want and how much money do you have to spend. I think that you would be fine with a cam/bolt on car, or maybe just a bolt on car. You have to remember that this is your only car and when you start modding things can and will break so if I were you I would not go very wild.
