Default Add on auxiliary ports for the radio

Hey guys, I was reading this here article: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...p_04dec13.mspx as I have been wanting to run my Zune in my car without an FM transmitter, as the two I have here fail miserably. Part way down the author mentions:

"Add-on Aux in Port. Some stereos that don't have a factory installed aux-in port can have one added for a small fee. Car shops like Car Toys can add these ports to your vehicle for under $100. Sometimes this port will replace the car's CD changer, but other vehicles have multiple inputs hidden behind the dash that aren't typically in use."

I have a 02, v6 (doubt the engine matters, but who knows) without the Monsoon system, I have a single CD player. I am wondering if the add on auxiliary port can be applied to me.

Thanks!

I'm sure there are other people on here that know better than I do, but until they chime in I'll take a crack at this one.

I don't think you can add on a aux port to your stock stereo. In my experience, GM likes to keep any add-ons to their stock systems within the family, so to speak. For example, if you were to replace that stereo, you couldn't just go all *****-nilly and swap it out. Besides the install kit, you'd even have to buy an adapter for the antenna to make it fit into your new deck.

The Monsoon systems have the aux for the CD changer, but its proprietary to whatever factory installed CD changer they used in that model year like everything else.

In short, no add-on aux port. But if you were going to spend $100 on that, you may as well save a few more pennys and buy a spankin' new deck that will give you your ZUNE functionality and lots more for less than $200.

^JR^

Thanks for the reply. I will start looking into some cheaper head units I guess.

Thanks Stan!

I found this in his store: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevy...4506.m20.l1116

To me, it reads like it takes place of the CD changer port, but I only have a single CD player, do I still have the port for the CD changer?

Yes I do. I have a button that says CD and under the word CD it says AUX; all the same button though.
