Default AC Bypass question

Recently replaced belt and tensioner only to have it tear up a couple weeks later. We thought the pwr steering pump was the problem, but just noticed yesterday when installing new belt that AC had a lot of resistance when trying to turn the pulley.

Now to the question...
Can i simply put a belt on my car that is fit for the same year/model but without AC ? Or would it be best to install the ac bypass?

Thanks

what year is your car and what engine? If you have a 3.4L I know there is a bypass pulley and mount assembly. I am not sure on the other engines. Why not just get a new A/C pump and have your A/C repaired properly instead of jurry rigging your car?

Well it worked, and was lucky enough for it to work on the first belt tried. Just ran a string around pulleys and got an approximate length, then slapped one on while skipping the ac. Car started right up with no squealing or the smell of burnt plastic.

Didnt wanna go for the full repair, this is a project car i have had for only two months. ( Starting to look like a very big project ) Really just need something to ride until it is bike season again, but i have always wanted a camaro since getting to babysit my dads '89.
