99 Z28 Interior Light Dead : Ashtray/PRNDL
 

Anyone know if this is a pain to replace or exactlywhere it is ? Could this just be a fuse ?

I've seen them listed as two different lights, but I'm not sure where the ashtray light is. The gear indicator light is fairly simple to replace. Open middle compartment, remove coin holder, unbolt two bolts, lift up console enough to remove light. Bulb is a pain to remove socket though.

I was thinking it was the same bulb because both the ashtray and gear light went out at the same tame

At first I could hit the console and make it come back on , but now that doesnt work at all

If it was a fuse, it would be affecting more lights/systems correct ?

That's correct. Some of the smaller bulbs in which the filament didn't burn completely away, can be jarred to come back on. Though this happens only sometimes, and doesn't last for long. The location for the bulb is right under the 1 on the gear indicator. I believe the bulb is 75, I just replaced mine with an LED as well as the door switch panel lights.

Will an auto parts store carry the bulbs/ LEDs ? Or is this a dealer item ?

Why did you choose LED and is there any modification needed to install ?

Stores will carry bulb, not sure of LED though. I got mine of eBay. White LED gave a slight blue tint to the letters. I chose LEDs, as they last a hell of alot longer than regular filament bulbs, and look better in my opinion. No modification to install them.
