Smile 96 caprice police package lt1 motor

I am looking around for a new motor for my 95 z28 and came across a caprice police package motor, the guy saus this is a corvette motor, is this true? I don't want to butcher my car by putting a caprice motor in, corvette is one thing, let me know thanks,
EDIT:also would a later 4th generation Ls motor fit?

is it a lt1? 94 caprice coupe had a police option, a iron head lt1. the caprice wagon also had it. different heads and cam then the camaro or vette so less hp. 200 as opposed to 260. it will fit, it is not a vette motor but a vette style engine. should have the opti on the front

It is a lt1. He says it's a corvette motor. What would I have to do to make it hot again? Seems like a good deal

The Impala-Caprice-Buick LT1 is an iron head engine. Put on aluminum heads and you have a Z28-Trans Am engine. The Vette LT1 is another step up as it's a 4 bolt main block, the others are 2 bolt btw. So for that police Caprice (that came with the 260 hp LT1) to have a "Vette engine", it's either a transplant (have proof) or the seller doesn't know what he's talking about. I've seen plenty of for sale ads with sellers of Z28's saying their LT1 is a Vette engine. Some just don't know the differences.

^This. I see so many people advertise their F-bodies and the B- and D- bodies as having the "Corvette" engine because it has the LT1 or LS1 nameplate and the engines were first introduced the Corvette. There are subtle differences in the block, heads, and even the cam, but it's enough to make them different engines.

Check the heads. If they are aluminum, either the heads were swapped or a F- or Y- body engine was put in. If they are still iron, it is the original style engine and is certainly not a 'Vette engine. If it does have aluminum heads, and no proof that it came from a 'Vette, I would purchase with the thought that it is not legitimately a Corvette engine.

Also, make sure it's not the "baby" LT1. They did install a 4.3L LT1 in some of the big body cars.

no a ls is not a direct fit. lt1 or lt4 will fit. how many miles, if its got iron heads you could send the heads off your engine into elliotts and have them done. le2 is good. and a cam with some 1.6 rollers, have the intake done with good exhaust it should gain 120 hp over your camaro's stock lt1

The engines used in the big cars were tuned for low end torque in order to get those big heavy boats moving, and the iron heads will probably add 50 pounds to the weight of the engine. The Vette engine will bolt in, but some of the accessories were configured differently and have to be changed or adapted.

the better engine would be a z28 with police .package ,lighter ,some .of the .mid 90s ones had them ,but finding one is .probley . hard ,what shape. is the caprice ,you could put a big block in it ,everyone says they have corvette.engine in it ,,anything thats not in a vette is a detuned version even the z28 .unless you got a 406

Do you have any specs on the "better" engines? To the best of my knowledge the only thing the police version had was a larger radiator. As a general rule the motors are avoid because the the police "interceptors" got pounded about every day of their life.

If do find the Corvette thing funny. When I bought my 93 Lt1 the guy said he had a engine and transmission from a 93 Vett with 32K on them. I called about the motor he said offered me the transmission. After checking with Camaro 69 and then doing some research I told him the German built Vett transmission would not fit in a F body. The response was "well it came out of a Firebird I thought they were the same"
