Yes, I believe it was an iron block with aluminum heads.

 

Sorry to disappoint youguys, but the Camaro 3.4 cylinder heads are made of good old gray cast iron. If you want aluminum heads, you will have to borrow the heads from a W car, and do a bunch of work to make the engine work properly after the transplant.
