Default 93 z28 automatic shifting mystery

So had the car for a few months or more ran great, suddenly on one of my commutes after stopping for gas car would not go past 25-30 mph. No over heating, no problems starting up. Rpms would just rev like crazy and get no power. Did a little search on the forums and my first ideas from that we're either the speed sensor or throttle position, since the speed sensor is on the transmission I thought the car may be stuck in limp mode from it malfunctioning as the abs light was on when I bought the car and read one of the sensors that will cause this to happen is the speed sensor... Now here's the weird part, I went to AutoZone and bought an automatic transmission speed sensor, and when I went to take out the old one it was a manual speed sensor... The only sense I can make from that is that t

take your fuel filter out and dump its contents into a clear container, dump it from the tank side so some of whatever it caught will come out, also look for water. you may have gotten some water in the gas you got.

Not sure if its good new or bad new but your research is off. On cars with computer controlled transmission the speed sensor can cause havac with shift point. You don't have a computer controlled transmission. You transmission shifts are controlled by internal pressures in the transmission just like the cars built in the 80's. The only thing the computer does is control the torque converter lock up which is only under light throttle in 4th gear. No idea what your issue is but it not your speed sensor.

93 is the only 4th gen like this. It is why your car has a ECM (engine control module) vs the 94 which has a PCM (powertrain control module)

Good and bad. It was my first preconception. more recently I've been thinking it's the shift solenoids on the tranny. Do you have any idea why my auto would have a manual sensor though??? Boggling my mind

'93 was the last year before electronic control 4L60 not 4L60E,I had the same car. It's pretty much the same as a 700r4.

93 was a change over year for the sensors, if you look at rockauto under the 1993/ Camaro/ 5.7 Vehicle Seed sensors you will see two sensors listed. There is no clear guide line and some of the parts even say they are for the 5 speed transmission which was never put behind a 5.7. My guess is GM used both geared and gearless sensor but did not document it well. Rock must have had returns and hey figured it out and just posted the other sensor in the 5.7 area. There are countless times this has happened over the years. Sometimes GM is just using up existing inventory from last year and sometimes the "new design" parts run into manufacturing problems and are late. I don't think it would be mind blowing to a parts guy. More like something they see weekly. Just the other day I was buying something for my 2007 trailblazer and I had to go to a 06 part. I have a spare 93 6 speed in my garage, it is the gearless design but that was a new trans for GM that years so no last year stock to use up.

I assume you realize that since you transmission is not computer controlled there is no shift solenoids.
