Default 93 z28 Aftermarket Radio Problem

Hey guys I have a question about the installation of an aftermarket radio in my 93 z28. This may be confusing but I'll try my best to explain.

The previous owner installed an aftermarket radio with a 20 pin power cable by taping, using adapters, and ghetto rigging the whole thing. Now, I just bought new radio with a 16 pin power connector. I'm pretty sure i see the stock power cables (blue/black?) how would I go about taking what I have now and making it compatible?

Thanks

pictures of the old wiring would help, but it sounds like you are going to have to do some re-wiring. it definitly helps that some of the original wiring is still there, but you'll have to re-do at least a little bit.

The stock cables going into an adapter?

The mess the guy left me.

The 20 pin that was connected to the old radio.

I don't even know...

The back of the NEW radio, with the 16 pin power plug.

You need to find a wiring diagram of the stock radio wiring and then cut out what you don't need and wirer your new radio in, match the wires up from the new head unit to the stock wiring and cut out all connectors and tap ins the previous owner put in there. If you can go from your stock wiring directly to your head unit you'll get the best connection.

if thats the stock wiring you can just go to any speaker store and get a wiring harness. if its not stock just rip all the wires out until you get to the stock wires. and then you'll still need a wiring harness which does not come with your aftermarket stereo. so no matter what your going to need a wiring harness.

I have the arrow pointing to the stock wiring.
From what it looks like, all you need to do is cut out the old wiring, and rewire everything to the plug that goes to the back of your new head unit.

He still needs that adapter. The way the wiring works is stock plug connecter goes into an adapter that has wires coming out of that, that then are soldered to the plug that goes into the back of his head unit. I will post a pic later of what I mean.
