with that many miles on it the cylinders will be out of round, that means boring them and new pistons. crank will need mic'd and most likely turned, machine work will kill the budget.

Yes, if you really love it maybe find a used engine and try to rebuild that one while you drive. But that design of engine has not been put in a car since 1995 and it was only ever put in camaro/firebirds so there is not a lot of option. Finding a low miles used motor is going to be tuff.

If you can find 96-up camaro that is set up for a 3800 cheap, with that motor you can find used engines all the way up to 2008.

also are all the 3800's the same thinking of getting one out of like an 05 impalla or something..... or would it be better to just get one out of a newer camaro?

3800 will not be a direct fit in a 93 with 3.4. lots of things would need to be found from a 3.8 camaro. 4th gens are engine specific so changing to a different engine is a major job and can cost 3k pretty quick. real easy to spend 2k just doing a rebuild yourself.

After I reread my post it is a little confusing. I did mean find a 96+ Camaro. Conversions are a huge pain. Almost every part under the hood is different and because of a computer change in 96 most of the wiring is different also. You can find the cars check with damaged motors and you can find low miles motors for the 96+ A LOT easier. The motors have more HP and get better mileages. They also respond better to mods.

I bought a 96 5 speed to $1000, bought a 02 3800 with 48k for $650. That was almost 5 years and 75,000 miles ago and she is still running strong. Build thread is in my sig.
