Default 93 idles high and squeals

hey everyone im new to the forums just joined today... i have a 93 maro which i have been tuning up over the past month. i just got back into the country so the car has been on a non op over the past year plus and so it has been sitting at my parents house... anyway got back battery was dead so i replaced it, did a top up of all the fluids but still need to change the oil, replaced the serp belt, but anyway i have am still having a few problems... it is idling high at about 2200 rpms and if i remember right it should idle at about 1300 or so? any suggestions? air filter about 80% clean, and i checked some of the hoses/connections and doesnt seem to be a leak, so im not sure what the problem is... im wondering if squirrels might have chewed through a wire to make it do this?

also the engine makes a high pitch squeal which started when i was test driving it up the street which it needed power steering fluid so i added some but it has not gone away... just doesnt squeal when i turn the wheel now, so maybe when i replaced the serp belt on it might have done something?

i know a bit about cars but not to much, more like just the basics... so any help would be really appreciated...

thank you in advance

take the belt off and start for a second and see if it still squeels. while the belt is off turn the pully on power steering pump and see if it makes noises or is hard to turn. car should be idleing about 7 hundred rpms. scann for trouble codes and let us know what comes up.

Are you sure you're not hearing a "whistle" instead of a squeal? Could be an open vacuum line, which would also raise your idle.

hey thanks for the tips... i took off the belt like mentioned and the squealing stopped and as i looked at the belt for some reason all the teeth were already worn off... thought that was strange for a brand new belt.

also on the idling i think i found the problem, i was giving everything a closer inspection and the wires to the male adapter to the throttle positioning sensor were pretty exposed and touching each other. when i starting messing around with it the rpms shot up about 400 more rpms.

also sorry it took me so long to get back to reply i hardly get free time to do things like this, work 6 days a week and crazy split shifts... but next time i get some free time i am hoping to replace the plugs.

depends on if its a 93 or a 97. big spread so i would say anywhere from 3500 to 6500.

u do not want the wires to touch. could do damage to the ecm or the tps. and yes it could be messin with the idle.
