I prefer the '93-97 looks over the '98-up changes. They have a more sinister look with the recessed headlights. And, the '93-96 taillights flow better with the bodylines of the hatch.

Agreed. Which is why I swapped mine out to those.

I have/had both , a 94Z and a 02Z for a while and from personal experience and the experience of friends and people on various forums, this is what seems to be the concensus:

Performance wise.....98's and up

Looks wise (Exterior)... 93-96. The SS hood looks so much better. I had my 94Z with one... ugghh it was beautiful.

Interior looks... 97's & up

Overall ease of work for various projects... 98's +

Overall less problematic (even if it is by a little bit)....98's +

As far as lights in the back, they can be changed out regardless of what year and export tailights ... has em all beat

I'm kind of split on the exterior...I think the 98+ look is more modern, but I hate the stock gray grille. Also, the front overhang looks absurdly long from some angles. I definitely like the 93-97 taillights better. My overall opinion really varies car to car. As far as the interior goes, I prefer the older style, but the gauges in the newer style are a ton easier to read (they changed the dash only for '97, then changed the front end in '98, then added a new steering wheel in '99). The only real gripe I have with the newer interiors is the steering wheel. Having driven both, I would say that the older (93-98) style is just the right size, whereas the 99-02 style is WAY too big. It's really awkward to handle, especially if you're trying to cut corners quick. If I ever get a newer style, I would be sure to get a '98 just for that reason.

I had the option to get my 95 or a 2001 camaro. I just don't like the front end on the 2001's. Looks more like a chick car to me, I don't know what it is. Done right, it looks good. But in stock form, I'd prefer a 93-97 anyday! My perfect car would be a 97 ( newer dash) SS with the LT1 and a 6 speed on the floor. Oh boyy!

Hmm, I ordered too late to get a 96; when my 97 showed up in August I was thrilled with the wheels and the modified dash, but not pleased with the tail lights. I'm not a fan of the 98+ front end, to the point that I would not have purchased a new Camaro had I waited a year or two longer.

Overall, I still find my 1997 to be a striking automobile, particularly with the top down and that funky plastic boot on. I think the front end of the early models is sinister and aggressive, and it matches the rest of the lines of the car better than the newer front end. But these differences of opinion are what makes the world so interesting, don't you think?
