Default 79 Z-28

Hi, Im looking into a 1979 Z-28 and I was wondering if there is certain things I should look for? Rot in places, broken parts, problems with that year in general? I have one im looking into now, its got 100,000 miles, its got the small block 350 with a holly carb, eddlebrock intake and headers, flowmaster exaust, an Excel HEI. Its got power windows, locks, has AC. Power steering and power brakes. Its 4 spd manual, black on black with delux interior. Im going to look at it tomrow or the day after, ill try to get some pics. Does it sound like its worth 2000? My dad has had chevelles and he never really delt with camaros so he isnt the most help when looking for camaro related problems, he just knows general car issues of that time. Any help would be great. Thanks, Ryan

Wow, if the body is in good shape and doesn't need a paint job and it's running with a clear title it sounds like a good deal to me, just by the description you gave. The only major problem you need to look for, and all Camaros have this problem, is the Door Hinges. Make sure they are in good shape or at least good enough to only have to put bushings in the hinge to fix any drop in the door.

The body does have some rot, rear wheel wells, quarters and some around the door, it is going to need paint but im not woried about that, my friend owns a paint shop so I can get it done at only the cost of the paint. The motor will need to be rebuilt soon, should I stay with the 350 small block? I have the option of a 396 big block out of a chevelle with a munci rock crusher trans, would it fit?

Well that's kind of a personal decision then. For me the Rust would be a major deturant for me. But if your paint guy can do the body work for you then your set. Personally I would stick to the 350, they can put out alot of power when built right and the 396 is a major pain in the *** but once you get it in and all set up you will love the instant power. I'm not sure if the Trans will fit we'll have to see if someone with a little more knowledge about those can answer that. But if you can fix the Rust and paint it for the cost of the pain I personally would think it's still worth the $2000 considering I personally believe if a car is straight with tags and inspected and runing its worth $1000 right there.

The cars straight, never been crashed, its the origional owner, it starts right up and runs fine but it does sputter a little bit here and there.
