Default 700r4 or 4l60?

I've got a '93 z28, meaning the redheaded step-child of the fourth gens, and I'm trying to figure out if I've got the 700r4, or 4l60.

I know they are essentially the same thing, but I'm thinking about buying a shift kit, and want to make sure I get the right thing. Or does it not matter/what works on one will work on the other?

I did do a search, but didn't find any posts about '93 specific shift kits.

Also, if anyone has any suggestions on kits for my transmission, I'd appreciate a shove in the right direction.

It's too bad the '93s are so confusing. I wish it were as easy as the 94+, with their 4l60Es! haha.

Ha, all I want is a <500$ shift kit, not an entire tranny! lol.

And there's a very good possibility that it's stronger, since everythign is mechanical. Everything's gotta be beefed up.

1990-93 Camaro had the 4L60 (new name), which is the same trans as the 700R4 (old name). 94 and up has the 4L60-E, which is an electronic computer controlled shift version of the previous 4L60/700R4. The way to tell a 4L60-E is it doesn't have a governor or throttle valve/TV cable.
