4l60E Sort of cured.
First real post WooHoo!
Yesterday I brought home my new old 96 Camaro 3800 with 123,000 miles. All the way home I did not have 1st or Overdrive with a P0753 code. So Today I brought home both shift solenoids and a filter kit and dug in. I replaced them, super easy but messy on jackstands. I bench tested both and one did click and the 1-2 did not. I tested the new ones to be sure they work and I put it al back together. Took it out for a drive and all was well. Then the light came back on. Now I get a P1870 code but it does shift well. I'm not about to get it rebuilt since it works so well. My guess is a valve body issue. I have read that a transgo shift kit will fix this problem and prolong the life of the tranny. Am I going the right way with this? Any real experiences with this code and the fix?

The 1870 code can mean a couple of things, one of which is a worn lockup valve and/or port in the valve body. Since the Transgo shift kit says it cures the 1870 code, it's definitely worth a shot. Let us know how it goes.
Got done today with the Transgo shift kit. It was messy but not to bad to do. Their directions were very lacking but I got through it OK. Took it out for a drive and no codes returned. The tranny seems to shift a little more firm than before. The best thing is the torque converter does lockup now.
Now for the bad... I was testing out some hard accelleration and when I kicked it down the motor redlined, I let off the gas a little and it shifted up. Well, thats all it took and I spun think I spun a bearing. Now I have a knock and low oil pressure. Now I get to pull the motor. I'm sort of bummed since it was my own fault.
