Default 402

hey guys im new to the forums and i have a quick question for now that is. I have a buddy at work who says he'll sell me his 402. Does anyone know if that will take some heavy modification to drop that big block in there? I was originally going to drop the 383 in there but theres no replacement for displacement... Any info would greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

i'd assume you'd have to do some firewall cutting to get it in...that's a big old motor and there's just not much room in the engine bay...the lt1 barely fits. and i assume you realize that you'd have to get a different tranny as well

I would be more concerned with getting it to fit between the fenderwells, and all else that's in the way. A tape measure may help to make up your mind. Sure more displacement is nice, but the big block weighs a bit more than the small block too. I don't think the benefits of the 19 extra c.i. is going to offset the extra weight and needed work of making the big block work. Not to mention, your car will be less nimble in the turns with a big block.
But...a b.b. 4th Gen, you don't see too many. It depends on what you're after.

it might be a 402 but its a big block so you can get ALOT more cubes out of it and a big block can easily make over 1000hp but its a tight fit but an awesome project.

not trying to offend the OP...but if he's starting with a 6 cylinder car i doubt he has the funds it would take to complete such a drastic swap. shoot...i can't even afford to build up my lt1 at the moment, lol

if you got the time, money, and know-how then i'd be all about this project. however, something like this demands pics if you go through with it, lol
