the 4.10s will hurt gas mileage and your top speed. But changing the gear ratio does that. Id say 3.73 because they are alil more streetable than 4.10s.

I agree with Spartan66. Though the 4.10's will give you a good launch off the line it'll kill you when you're trying to do any kind of highway speed. 4.10's are more for a weekend toy/strip car.

The differance between 4.10's and 3.73's at say for example 65 mph is only about 200 rpm. The reason people say they are so hard on gas is because they can't keep their foot out of it because the gears are so much fun. I wish there was a rule here that said you actually had to have EXPERIANCE with somthing before givong advice on it.

fixed

Anywaydont they put you in higher rpms over stock at cruising speeds like if you usually cruise around at 40mph doing 1600rpms wouldnt 4.10s make 40mph more like 2000rpms+? Wouldnt that cause the excessive use of fuel? higher rpms=more fuel right? Thats my understanding of how they work.

Do you have auto or 6 speed? If you have a 6 speed I would say go for it, but it also sounds like your daily driver car too, so it all depends on GAS PRICES!!!!

the ONLY reason not to do 4.10s is if you are worried about track times and are making enough power to hit 120ish at the traps (end of 4th)

otherwise they increase pull at all rpm at all speeds, keep you in the powerband better between shifts, and are all around fun as hell

Oh you got me with a spelling mistake. Have you ever owned a car with 4.10's? I did not say it would not affect the MPG, it will but it will not "kill the milage", it will also not limit the top speed very much, maybe only 10 mph. 4.10's are perfecly streetable, I am not sure why people think they are not, but trust me, they are fine.

i never said it would kill your mpg nor did i say it would hugely affect your top speed. I said it would hurt it more so than 3.73. All in all 3.73 IS in fact more streetable than 4.10s but not by much. If you dont mind sacraficing alittle here and there 4.10s would be perfect. Ive never owned a 4.10 car but my friend has a 72 Chevelle with 4.10s and its quick as hell but once it hit top end it just felt like you couldnt go any faster.. Then again we were topping out the speedo and we didnt kno how fast we were actually going.

thats funny.... because the definition of the top end is the speed at which you cannot go any faster

if, however you meant that at higher speeds it didnt have any more guts, the only plausible explaination for this is ur buddy was in an overdrive gear. with a completely linear set of gears, a 4.10 car will be faster 0-60,60-120,120-180,180-infinity and beyond than a car with a lower ratio. the ONLY limitations are, overdrive gears, as in the 6th gear in a t56, or 5th in a T5, as stated above, and top speed, which most cars cannot hit their rpm limited top speed anyways, so this isnt an issue
