383 lt4 hotcam kit
any thoughts on this combo? ive got the motor built and all that has to be done is the cam put in. but ive heard some people say that the lt4 is not a big enough cam. but the guy that built my motor said that i cant go too big and this guy is old time. hes been machining motors for years and hes the best around here. he is carring out his fathers legacy and he really is awesome. but ive heard that the lt4 isnt big enough i need somethoughts. ive got pacesetter long tube headers with cut outs on both headers then the y pipe comeing off of the cutouts. thats the exhaust setup. ive got some guys here called alabama dyno pros who will be tuning the car. and just so you know its a 96 z28. and i need somethoughts about doing a 350turbo swap. (much cheaper to build :P) thanks guys all and any help/suggestions/ideas will be great. any questions just ask
yeah thats what i was thinking. he said the lt4 would be perfect... so i think i will buy it. i think the price was dropped i seen it on some gmpp site for 602. and the chevrolet place here says 736. and 100 would be nice to save.
I tend to agree with JD. The hot cam was designed fora Little extra kick over the stock350 LT1/4engine.The larger the engine the more cam and port volume it can tolerate and still be streetable, and at high RPM the 383 can use much more cam timing and lift than the hot cam provides.
I would really hesistate to go with a more extreme cam than the engine builder recomends. Why would you trust him to build out the entire engine, but not to pick the cam? You can easily overcam an engine, you already said you are running stock heads, I REALLY would just go with whatever your engine builder suggests. If he built the motor,he knows what combo is going to run best.
