Default '30th anniversary' in '96?

So i have a standard z28 with the '30th anniversary' embossed on the seats. I know its not the proper limited 30th anniversary, but its registered as a 97.

I notice on the door panel it says build date was september '96. How could a 96 build date have the 30th anniversary seats?

Same way you can get a new 2018 right now with a 2017 build date.

It used to be normal to "tool" the next years cars on the 4th of July week. It was very common for production to not run on the first week of July for tooling and the week of Christmas for maintenance and mid year changes. Even to this day many parts vendors shut down the week of July 4th because they can not ship product into plants that week.

The 67 was running a little late. with Vin 000001 suppose to me done first week of September 1966 but I think it shipped 2 weeks late. The mid year was also late with big block coming available at the end of January. So your September 1996 car is a classic example of a true 30 year anniversary.
