Default 3.4 Grenaded a Z28 Rear End

So the title says it all. I hit second gear last night real hard and Grenaded my LSD rear end. I already bought another from a wrecked Z car today to replace it. Picked it up for $150. Here's the carnage!

I'll take pics of what's under the diff cover after I get the rear ends swapped. Enjoy!!! =D

Yup "grenaded" pretty much sums it up. The diff cover looks super thin, or is that just a layer of paint? Im on the laptop and can't really tell.

I warned you about putting that NOS bumper sticker on there I'm glad you got another one. It probably was shot from the get go.

That's paint you see there. And yeah that rear end had slack from the start. But the new one I got has all brand new internals. It was rebuilt 10,000 miles ago. So hopefully it holds up. I'm still not sure what gear ratio the new one has tho. My old one had 3.42's

Haha do I'm pulling everything apart and I pulled the calipers off the rear end so I wouldn't have to bleed the brakes (use the brakes from the old rear end). And guess what? I tried to pull the disks off the old rear end and the whole axle came out with it haha. Same on both sides. Jeeeze I'm thinking this new rear end has 2.73's though because I spun the rear axle and one full revolution of the axle was about 2.75 revolutions of the driveshaft... Gross... 2.73's in a 3.4....... Ugh this is gonna suck

What was involved in swapping in a disc brake rear? Master cylinder? Tubing at the rear?

I ask because my 94 now has almost 140k on the clock and I have some gear whine. Plus it needs wheel cylinders and rear shoes and the whole housing is a rusty mess. (From what I read the rears weren't painted except for export cars.)

The cool factor of rear discs would be nice but I'm guessing that a decent disc brake rear won't be cheap.

I picked up my new disk brake rear with LSD for $150. Easy install as long as you get one with 3 channel ABS. If you get one with 4 channel ABS, you have to make your own distribution block from the car to the two hoses on the rear. Master cylinder and stuff is all the same.

I did a search on car-part*dot*com this morning and there are lots of disc brake rears available near me. Price is anywhere from $250 to $850.
While I've seen a bunch of 4th gens in the local U-Pull-It there haven't been any V8 cars yet. I'll keep looking.
