Default 2002 SS?

I am looking at purchasing a 02 Camaro SS.How can I tell if the car is a real SS or a clone? I also just purchased a 97 Camaro Z28, the seats are leather and have the 30th anniversary logo on them but not on the dash. I believe that the seats were added by someone else. Could it be the 30th model and how can I tell?

a real 02 SS should have a 35th Anniversarylogo on the dash, above the radio. it should have all leather interiorand of course the hood with the scoop, the flip up spoiler, and the different rims. anda 30th anniversary would be the 97 camaro, so if its a 96 and the seats say 30th Anniv. then he added them from a 97.

If you get the VIN number you can contact SLP and if it is a real SS they will be able to tell you all the options that car came with. You can also check the glove box where the option codes are, if it is a real SS it will have RPO code WU8.

Sorry, I'm an idiot, I meant to say I purchased a 97 and wanted to know how I can tell if it is the 30th anniversary model or are all of them the 30th. I also a have 96 SS Impala and I got them mixed up when asking the question. I am new to the Camaro scene so excuse my stupidity. I do not know what was extra on the 02 SS model, the wheels are after market. Is there a letter or number in the VIN that will show it is the SS model? The Impala's have an X on the built sheet on the trunk lid.

Is the scoop on the hood functional? The car has a super charger on it! The wheels are after market.

All 97's are considered "30th Anniversary" cars, the only ones that are truly rare and special are the 30th Anniversary Special Edition Z28 or SS. They all came with Arctic White paint with Hugger Orange racing stripes. White ZR1 wheels and a white interior. The whole roof and cross bar will be painted Arctic White as well, instead of the normal black. There isn't anything in particular that you would be able to tell from the VIN if it's a reall SS, but you can get the VIN and contact SLP and they'll be able to tell you everyting about the car, like I said before, RPO code WU8 is the code for an SS.

Thanks. My 97 is not the 30th Anniversary due to it being all black and the logo on the dash only says Camaro. Looks like I sold it for $5,000. I am looking at purchasing a 02 SS for $21,000 with 50 thousand miles on it. The owner has done numerous mods and says it is 585 HP at the back wheels. Do you feel that the 02 Camaro is a good investment, long or short term?

Sounds a little pricy to me, you can get a different LS1 car for around 10-15K, for the money that you save you can get a good amount of power out of any car. If a car is already modded you can't consider it an investment in my opinion.

Depends, if you do the work yourself then yeah, I agree but if you're having a shop do it for you why not get it "pre-done?" Is pricey though...
