Default 2002 headlights won't work

hey having trouble with a 2002 z28 the light switch keeps going out. Seems part of the switch get's hot enough to fall apart. I opened up the switch and it's like a set of contact points that get hot to the point of melting the solder. there are no mods to this car, all the other lights work parking brake ect. Just not the headlights? any help would be great. thanks mike

Have you checked the fuse? Sounds like there is a short.

now why do u use the switch, dont u have daytime running lights? so u dont need to? whats the voltage going to the switch? maybe a voltage regulator's going out? and its sending too much voltage to the switch.... what do i know though. im just a white boy.

the voltage reads 11.6, and what i'm saying is there are no headlights no juice at the connection to the lights but all other lights work also wouldn't the regulator surge other areas first starting with the charing system?

Don't listen to him, he's just a white boy. The switch wouldn't get hot from too much voltage, but would from drawingalot power (amperage). Like cplthomas said, it sounds like you have a short. I'm assuming you've checked for power downstream of the switch?

You might keep checking for power from the switch to lights. If you make your way from the lights to the switch you will eventually find the problem. Do your lights come on at night? Or do they not come on at all?

no they don't work at all the switch makes a clicking sound when in the on position actually when i plug the switch in it starts clicking, that turns out to be the piece that gets hot and falls apart like a small set of contact points anyway hoping it's in an area thats easy to get to cause everything is packed tight. thanks for the help more is needed thanks mike

Ok,found it the short was in the harness where it crosses over the steering colum seems one of the red wires in the harness slipped out of the harness cover and got pinched inbetween the plastic dash and the metalframe it bolts to and rubbed through over the years but only in a little spot almost unnoticable until you move the wire. man i tracked the heckout of these wires, but finally in the most unsuspecting area short fixed lights working whew!!!!
