Just picked up a 2002 Camaro SS with low miles (18k). This is our first 4th gen Camaro (my wife had a 3rd gen before). We drove it on Saturday for the first time and I noticed that the oil pressure was just shy of the 60psi hash on the gauge. It gradually went up from there based on the rpms and speed. It eventually got up to 80psi but that was when we were moving pretty fast (roughly 3000rpm in 5th gear.
I am a Cummins diesel guy...I don't know squat about these LS1 engines. The car drove awesome and sounds awesome (it has a 6-speed manual and the 335hp SLP exhaust). These oil pressures seem high to me but coming on this forum to see what y'all have to say.
I will say that the car did come from up north so maybe there is different oil in it then what we use in Texas, and the car did not get driven a whole lot so maybe it needs a new oil filter. Again, just looking to get some feedback.
20-40 is common. may want to change all fluids. always a good idea when starting out with a new to you car. if it continues I would suspect oil pressure sensor is not happy and try to hook up a mechanical gauge or change sensor.

10-4, will do. Any recommendations for engine oil? I'm a fan of Royal Purple but really want to go with what everyone else seems to have working for them. It has just over 18k miles and I live in Texas if that matters for viscosity (i know it does in diesels).

Thanks again.
I run Mobil 1 in mine 5w30,I believe that is what the factory put in them when new and that's what my tuner suggested and he's a very well respected tuner here in the Pacific NW.
Welcome aboard by the way, you'll love that LS1/6 speed I'm sure,I know I love mine.

2001 SS LS1/6 speed with too many mods to list.
Thanks for the intel. Good looking ride too.
My wife was leaning for a black with grey interior but I almost bought a red with tan interior way back when and I've wanted one ever since I passed on it.

Well congrats,I was actually looking for black one with grey interior myself but after checking out a few that were not as clean as I'd hoped I found this one.
It was very clean in and out with nice leather, never smoked in etc. The lighter and ash tray still look brand new.
I always love to see another 4th gen in the house.
