This isn't some fox body 5.0....

it only weighs 200 pounds more than an fbody and produces 70+ hp more, sorry but a ls1 has little chance

Agreed. I love my LS1, but this 5.0 is 14 years newer and brings a lot more power and other advantages to the table.

No, the government mandate supposedly says that the fleet average needs to be 35MPG by a certain year, 2015 or 2020 I think. Ford and GM are already prepping for that, see their whole new line of small 4 cylinder cars? The Cruze, the Aveo? The new Focus and Fiesta?

These big V8 cars are going to stick around, some might get the Active Fuel Management, turning off 4 cylinders during highway cruising mode. The LS4 in the Impala/Monte Carlo was reported to get 28MPG on the highway in a car that was almost 4,000 lbs with a 5.3 V8, and 303HP. Pretty impressive. These newer motors will only have more amazing specs to put up.
