Default 2001 Camaro speedo not working

Hey everyone, so I'm looking at buying an 01 v6 as a daily, and one issue is that the speedometer just doesn't work. It sits at the normal position. I'm guessing that it's the speed sensor, but I'd like to know if there are other possibilities before I buy. Thanks!

agree, sensor or wiring to sensor got damaged. other than that the gauge itself could be faulty.

Thanks for the reply. Where is the sensor located, and will I need a lift to replace it?

It most likely the gage itself, in the wiring between the PCM and the gage or the PCM itself. If the sensor or with wiring to the PCM was bad your transmission would not shift. If the transmission is shifting right all is well from the sensor to the PCM. Scan tool will verify this.

You can use a cheap tablet and a obd11 blue tooth connector as a speedometer until you get it figured out. The blue tooth connector is like $12 and the App is $5. I did it with a older Fire X kindle that I paid $29 for 3 years ago. It could replace your whole dash. You can see any sensor data in the form of a gage. It will even track MPG like a more modern car and even estimate HP based on fuel pulse/usage.
