i'd like to say that if you've never drove a stick, an ls1 probably isn't the safest thing to learn in, unless you're a quick learner and havea huge practice space.

itas not hard to learn, took me all of like 2 hours to have it down pat...

and if he doesnt upgrade the shift, then you'll beat it with astick since most regular autos shift at like 2-3k rpm and you can go up to 5000 (like 45 in1st gear) and plus more if you work with your gears
OK don't take this the wrong way but you need to learn a bit more about autos and how they work before spreading false info about them. A properly functioning stock auto will shift at red line under wide open throttle. And for drag racing a stick will not out perform a stalled auto in our cars.

What auto shifts at 2500 rpms? [&:]

I think that if you are smart with the manual, it won't be too bad. I have an auto, but I learned to drive a stick in a heavily modified Ford Fairmont. (Dads toy. :P) I wouldn't be able to race it, or do anything fancy, but I could go from point a to point b.

+1 on buddywackos 'Hugepractice space' comment.

Alright, so im awating my loan amount, but i've decided im goin with the WS6, i just like the badass look of it more, there are about 3 that are within an hour or two of me, i got a 2000 black automatic one stock with 45k miles on it 30 miles away with a few scratches because of the intial owner, a 2001 dark blue one that is manual with 35k miles on it mint condition, stock as far as im aware of, asking about 17.5k for it,and the third is also a dark blue mint condition with about 25k miles on it, the furthest away at 3 hours and is also asking about 17.5k for it, but i think it just disappeared off autotrader so we may be down to the intial two.

i mite be wrong, but i thought a AUTO shifted at peek of HP curve, where it starts to decrease in HP. cuz i know some auto cars will shift like 1 grand under Redline.... but most dont.
