would buying a 1999camaro z 28with 100,000 miles from an auction be a bad idea?

 

Obviously the best thing would be if you could drive it first. Otherwise, I would want some sort of reassurance in writing from the seller that I wouldn't be bound to the sale if there was a serious mechanical issue or other major defect not disclosed that I discovered when picking up the car. If I was a seller, and I knew the car was good, I wouldn't hesitate offering that to a buyer. You are taking a big chance, and I've heard horror stories of the "perfect" car that was bought on ebay, only to be a dog when the buyer received it. One reason why a high mileage car could be on an online auction is because the car has a problem and the seller can't get anybody to buy it locally. Just be careful.

 

Are we talking about an ebay auction or something else? If it's ebay, a sale is never really final until you pay for the car. I got my car on ebay and got a great deal; I'm more than happy with the car. I never would have paid for it until I got to see it and drive it though. My advice is don't buy from an auction unless you know you are going to be able to drive the car before you pay or sign anything, otherwise auctions can be the best way to get a good car at a great price.

 

its a city auction for cars that have been recovered by the police. I was thinking about takin a mechanic with me and let him check it out and then ask about a test drive. It is not an online auction

 

Oh, that's different then. With always thinking computers, hearing the word "auction" automatically makes things like ebay come to mind. Yes, that's good as long as you can check it out first. Sometimes you can find some good deals, and taking your mechanic along is a smart thing if you don't know what to look or listen for.

 

yea now all i have to do is save up money its been on auction for a while because people in chicago where i live dont drive camaro they drive big *** chevy's on 26's and stuff so it should be there when i get the money

 

Do you live in the city or the burbs? I live in the N.W. suburbs of Chicago. I would like to check them out sometime, where are the auctions held and how often? Don't worry, I'm not going to snap up the one you're eyeballing!

OK, I think I've been to that one a few years ago. If it's the same place, most of the cars struck me as ones that were less desireable on a car lot, so off to auction they go. They were packed together outside on the lot, I couldn't take them for a drive, I couldn't hear them run, and a lot of them were locked. Also inside where the auction is taking place is extremely noisy with so much yelling and whistle blowing going on, that a car could be driven through with a rod sticking out the side of the engine, and you wouldn't be able to hear it. I went once and was turned off by the experience. Let me know how it went, maybe it's changed.

 

might just be a diamond in the rough.i bought my car off ebay and it has almost 110,000 on it and if i didnt tell u u would never be able to tell.motor looks brand new and interior is immaculant.couple knicks on the body but thats expected. all auctions around here are trash but i know some ppl in florida who say they get real deals on some cars so i guess it might depend on where you live also.good luck either way.
