Default 1998 Camaro SS rear end trouble

Hello, I am a new member here, but I have been reading the forums for quite sometime. Ihave a 1998 Camaro SS with a 6-speed trans. The car has 133,000 miles on it. The rear end on the car has been quite noisy as of late. You can hear a loud roar from 50mph up. It is a roar from the rear end not just road noisy. I can also hear a loud clickingnoise more from the right rear tire from 15mph down. As, I am rolling up to a stop sign or traffic light. Someone told me to check the rear end grease and add an additive called Trans-X or something like that. The rear end grease was full, but I drained some to add some fresh grease. I added a quart of freshsynthentic 75w 90and the tube of additive, but I still have the same trouble going on. Anyone got some advice on what to do or what the trouble could be?? With my luck I will be going inside of the rear end...

Thanks!!!

has the car been doing it as long as youve owned it? 130k is kind of alot, but if its been beat on recently you may be in some trouble.

I had the same problem in my '96 Z28 6-speed, I would get the same clicking noise after getting off of the express way and rolling to a stop. A friend of mine had the howling, or roar noise as you would call it, in his '99 SS. Both of us had the rear-end gears replaced and the noise is gone, might as well have then put in 3:73 gears or better while they're or you are doing the work.

I have had the car for four months or so now.. The howling/roar has been there since the beginning, but it has been getting gradually worse.. And now with the clicking starting as well... The car has been well taken care of. When I first got the car the oil change sticker was back from the beginning of 2005. The car has only been driven 1500 miles since 2005. All the Camaro's and Trans AM's I have had have some howling/roaring rear end noise, but not like this one....

F-body rear ends are junk, save some money and buy an aftermarket one. I have run 3.42, 3.73, 4.11 and 4.56 gears they all broke teeth off of the pinion gear after a while. I am finally getting the Strange S60 rear end.

Well, I have only drove the car a couple times a month since my last post (sits in garage). Last weekend the rear end finally went out. The pinion gear shattered into pieces. Sounded terrible... LOL.... I found a complete rear end in a local junk yard for $350. WhichI thought was a great price considering how hard they are to find here. It supposedly only has 50,000 miles or so on it. Placed it into the car (changed gear oil)and itworks perfect. It is quite... I can actually hear only the exhaust now at 60mph or so.....
