Default 1996 camaro ss backfire

I'm looking into purchashing a 1996 camaro ss with just over 82k on it. The only mods are edelbrock short tubes with a flowmaster catback exhaust. I looked at the car saturday and its nice, but when i started it up and let it run for a minute, it backfired a couple times when i revved it slightly. However, it didnt do it when it was warmer. The owner has had other lt1's and he claims its common. Im setting up another date to drive the car next week. Is this something to be concerned about? Anything else i should look for?

Also, it does have an exhaust leak on the driver side header, would this cause the problem?

Was it an actual backfire through the intake, or was it a popping sound out of the exhaust?

Backfiring out of the intake and not running well in general are symptoms of a bad opti. Popping out of the exhaust when the car is cold and you rev it is common. It occurs because the PCM can't keep up with the dropping RPM so the mixture as the RPM drops is rich so you get a little unburnt fuel in the exhaust which then make the popping sound that we LT1 owners love so very much.

Well fine, party pooper!

I enjoy my exhaust popping...

Also, You'll notice your extra thread in the SS section has disappeared, in the future please keep your topic to one thread in the section you feel most fit. I left this one since it already had posts in it.
