Default 1995 Camaro Z28

Hi Everyone,

I am considering buying a 1995 Camaro Z28, but don't happen to currently know much about this particular vehicle. Can anyone tell me the common problems or issues that this year may have, or any other helpful information that I should know prior to buying?

Thanks!

ask if the opti (distributor) has been changed and if so when and what brand was used. a good opti (not cheap china stuff) will last anywhere from 60k to 100k miles. some more some less. ask if there is a maintanance record, always a good thing. other than that its a 17 year old car so look at the things you would with any used car of that age.

I have a 95Z

things you should know

if you get a check engine light the local parts stores can't scan it because it's OBD1. You will need to buy a more expensive scanner (I own one myself so it's a non issue to me)

if you don't install headers then good luck getting to the passenger side spark pugs

under hood access is tight to say the least

it outhandles my 07 stang ( that is impressive)

dashboards look awful with the silly rug cover and replacement tops aren't cheap

the side bolster of the drivers seat will be torn. Don't put walmart seat covers on them

stock wheels (salad shooters) are ugly as all heck

once the clear coat begins to flake or bubble on the roof or front fenders it's complete sand to bare and respray of the entire car.

the LT1 is a fine engine and the opti, although a pain to access, is not as bad as it's made out to be.

I also have a 95 Z. I guess the most common issues are with the opti-spark, as Crabby mentioned. Although I have not had any problems with the "non-vented" type, 95 and newer, I did have a 94 that you couldn't drive in the rain AT ALL. Water would get into the opti and the car would immediately die and not start until it dried out. Other than that, the cooling system can be a pain to get all the air out of and the under hood area is somewhat tight/akward because of the overhang of the cowl.
