Default 02 rack

My steering is super loose. The wheel moves a couple of inches back on forth like a 70s/80's car. Is there an adjustment or is the rack trashed?

Are you sure its coming from the rack? That is a very unlikely place for steering play. Most of the time when I hear people complain about to much play in the steering its tie rod ends/ball joint issues. There is not adjustment in a rack like there was in an old steering box. They also tend to blow out the seals long before you can feel play in them.

Here's a copy of the power steering section from the 2000 service manual. It doesn't appear to have adjustments. It suggests to check things like tie rod ends, wheels bearings, mounting bolts and air in the system.

have someone rock the wheel back and forth while your looking under the front, should be able to see where the play is coming from. like said, most likely outer tie rod ends.
