z-28 shell
Hey all, I just registered because i'm in need of some advice.. I fell into a deal for an 86 z28 shell, no engine or trans, but nice body, all gutted, cowl induction hood, some suspension work for cheap.. i've been looking around on jegs, trying to find an engine/trans to drop in it, but not sure what to go with.. any advice?
350 engine with a 5 or 6 speed manual trans. but not the t5 that came in the camaros, go with a tko 600 or a t56 from tremec, excellent transmissions. or if you want to go auto, go with a built turbo 400 or 700r4
if you have the money for the crate engine go for it, of if your like most of us and dont, you can pick up a good 350 for a good bit cheaper at any number of places.. my personaly preferance would be a older 4 speed thou, they can hold up to just about anything, and personally for me 6 gears is just to many for me, i like to keep it simple and only have the one cross over shift, or if you want a auto go for a turbo 400, either way a small block is your best bet, 350, 355, or 383 or if you can find one a 400 small block
Preferrably a 350 crate, BUT, if you don't have deep enough pockets for it, go buy the bottom half of a 305 from somewhere like checker auto. They go for a few hundred bucks. The rest of the motor is very cheap, and as long as you don't get the restrictive stock heads and intake, you'll be one fast 305.
