i have no plans of using it in my camaro but my friends 79 silverado has hei and tach also and wants to buy it from me and pay me to install
now the box was originally meant for the old cylinder style coils but the hei coils have the same + an - wires so why couldnt it work? some say its not possible some say you can. does anyone know?

I would think you could install it. I had a MSD 6A on my 84 Camaro with HEI. The thing is it might be such old technology it might not improve the later ignition. Might be grat for points.
I had this on my old Fiat when it had a points dizzy and it made a huge difference but took it off when I went to electronic.
Its an old CDI (Capacitive Discharge Ignition) unit with a swicth to change it back to normal.

ya the description says it strengthens spark to keep the points clean by "burning" the crud off in a way
but without points wouldnt it mean you just get a stronger spark resulting in more efficient burning? better response too
oh an btw how did u run the toggle to switch back?

I don't see that doing any good at all with HEI. It was designed to enhance a points & condensor type ignition. HEI (High Energy Ignition) is already far enhanced (in both performance and power output) compared to a points style ignition. IMO, it would be a waste of time putting it on an HEI. You might make a few bucks selling it on flebay though. Someone may want it, either to hold on to for nostalgia, or to make their old points ignition hot-rod period correct.
