Default Will there be any HP gain with open element?

I have a 92 RS TBI and Im saving for vortec heads but for the time being would it be beneficial to remove my air cleaner and run an open air element filter? It has a 5.0L and does an open air filter increase HP or anything or should I just not waste the time? Any input would be helpful. Thanks

Such a small amount you will never notice it. I just removed the ring inside the cleaner that is around the opening. On those low profile cleaners it closes it up a lot when its bolted down. removing it probly opened it up enough for the poor flowing TBI

The only "power" gain I noticed with mine was a slightly better throttle response. For me the largest benefit was the increased room under the hood and the sucking noise it makes.
