what rear end to use with a 383?
i was thinking of building a 383...not really sure about HP..maybe anywhere from 450-500...i need to get a rear end to support this engine...i have a 92 camaro rs...im gonna use the 700r4 trans... i was wondering if someone can give me a couple of suggestions of what rear to put on the car..people have said the ford 9" and some the 12 bolt...what do you guys think? if you can try to explain the reasoning for why the certain rear will work best for me...oh and car is gonna be a street car..for now.

I don't know a whole lot about 3rd gens, but if you want a beefy rear, you could get a 12 bolt. They are very stout, and expensive. But if it's a street car, and you aren't going to launch hard, you could get away with the stock 10 bolt, and some stronger axels with a higher spline count.

Realistically you will need a 9 inch sooner rather than later, but you may be able to get by using a borg warner 9 bolt, a little stronger than the 10 bolt and will bolt right in.
EDIT: Btw, you will need to have the 700R4 built to handle that power. I had mine built with a larger pump, kevlar bands and clutches, shift kit, teflon seals, billet input shaft, 2300 RPM stall converter, and other goodies for $1200, supposedly able to handle 600 HP.

I took the one I had to Down Town Transmissions in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Steve does great work and had my transmission back the next day.

Fairly expensive but monster makes great stuff... Also check out Jegs, they have a large selection of TCI transmissions.

RE: what rear end to use with a 383?
1989_RALLYSPORT...just as i said in my first post...anywhere from 450-500 HP.... so i need the trans to handle that much power...as far as money...id like to try and save some money considering im doing everything to the car except painting the body....and im basically a newbie so my knowledge is minimal at this point..but im learning along the way...and people have suggested i stick with the 700r4 considering the car is already setup for it...so i wouldnt have to do any extra work.( i wouldnt wanna screw something up.) but id also like a new/rebuilt trans...not one from a junkyard off a different car...so basically the answer is...ill spend what i need to in order for the finished product to be flawless...but as i said...id like to find a good deal.... hope this answer your question.
